An e-book thought to be a rule book for pedophiles that was for sale on Amazon.com led to hundreds of angry users and threats to boycott the online shopping giant.
The listing for the book titled “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child Lover’s Code of Conduct” gathered more than 2,000 comments from users during its time on the online retail site. Most of those users were disgusted with the book and the fact it was allowed to be sold on the site. Users demanded the book be removed or they would boycott the site during its Christmas selling season. There were also two Facebook pages set up to spread the word of an Amazon boycott due to the book.
As of late Wednesday the listing was no longer available on Amazon.com. It appeared that the content violated two of Amazon’s guidelines for digital publications.
The author defended his book and the purpose behind it. Phillip R. Greaves II said that he wanted to end the unfair portrayals of pedophiles in the media by showing that true pedophiles love child and would not harm them. When he was asked if the manual was a how-to book for pedophiles he admitted that some parts were advisory and set up lines that should not be crossed.
The Amazon description of the book created by Greaves left a bad taste in the mouths of many. He described it as an attempt to make pedophile situations safer for juveniles by establishing rules for the adults.
