Petsmart Revamps Itself, Aims At Keeping Up With Amazon

Petsmart, in an effort to keep up with online shopping trends and Amazon, has announced a number of new delivery options and other features.

Customers can now order recurring subscription-based home deliveries of their favorite pet products. Products delivered in this manner come with free shipping and a five percent discount.

Same day shipping will also be available for $7.99. In addition, delivery times can be customized so that a purchased product is delivered within a few hours or up to two days after the time of purchase. Petsmart stores will be used as fulfillment resources for these deliveries.

Same-day and customized delivery options are currently available in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, San Jose, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle and Chicago, and are expected arrive in Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Yonkers, Northern New Jersey and Washington, D.C by mid-November.

Petsmart’s website has also been revamped with a new mobile interface, aimed at providing pet owners a “convenient experience” on smartphones and tablets. A mobile app is expected to be launched in the coming weeks.

Changes have been made to the online checkout process as well: The new one-page checkout option is aimed at reducing dropped orders, and your loaded shopping cart will now be synced between desktop and mobile.

There is also a new system that enables customers to check whether a certain product is available in their local Petsmart store, and to order it online if not.

Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer at Petsmart, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to launch the completely re-engineered PetSmart.com site, which offers a range of best-in-class features that allow pet parents to shop and engage with us whenever and wherever they wish.”
