Pirates of the Caribbean’s Depp Wants A Break

Johnny Depp, the actor playing Pirates of the Caribbean’s main character, Jack Sparrow, wants some time off before following up PTC’s latest sequel “On Stranger Tides.”

The Hollywood Reported interviewed Depp and he has this to say: “It’s not something where I would say, ‘Let’s shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012,'” he says. “We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me.”

The interview came after screenwriter Terry Rossio submitted a script to Disney several days ago for Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Pirates of the Caribbean is currently Disney’s most lucrative franchise. The first three movies grossed a total of $3 billion, which means more money with two more installments. It means the same thing for Depp if he reprises the role a fifth time.

The very lucrative actor’s response in the interview is said to be caused by the tight and brutal schedule he had when filming Pirates 2 and 3. This was due to Disney studio wanting to release both movies in July 7, 2006 and May 19, 2007 to take advantage of a summer release for each film. The first Pirates film was released in 2003. Pirates 4 will be in theaters this May 20, 2011.
