Owners of 2014 model year 911 GT3 Porsche sports cars will be getting new engines.
After investigating reports of two engine fires in the 2014 911 GT3, Porsche has announced its analysis of the problem is complete and that it has located the cause of the fires.
The company confirmed that “…engine damage resulted from a loosened fastener on the connecting rod. The loose connecting rod damaged the crankcase, which in both cases led to leakage of oil which then ignited.”, according to a statement released to the press.
Porsche is advising customers to quit using their 2014 911 GT3s immediately and to have their cars picked up by a Porsche dealer.
All 2014 911 GT3s will be receiving new engines, whether or not they’ve been delivered to customers yet.
The new engines will have optimized fasteners to prevent a recurrence of the problem.
Porsche says 785 vehicles are affected by the recall and that it is in contact with customers worldwide.
According to Porsche, no other 911 models or other model series are affected by the recall.
