Production Has Begun On ‘Divergent’ Sequel

Lionsgate has announced that production has officially begun on Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, which has set box offices ablaze to the tune of $260 million in box office revenue since its release in March.

Principle photography began Tuesday in Atlanta for Insurgent, which will continue the sage of Tris Prior, who is being played by Shailene Woodley.

The official synopsis for Insurgent notes that Tris, along with her companion, Four, who is played by Theo James, will face “one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.”

After Neil Burger directed Divergent, it will be Robert Schwentke taking the reigns as director of Insurgent.

Lionsgate has also confirmed that in addition to Woodley and James, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer, and Maggie Q will all be reprising their roles in the sequel, with Octavia Spencer joining the cast.

Insurgent is scheduled to hit theaters March 20, 2015.
