Red noses aren’t just for clowns anymore: May 21st is Red Nose Day, a day where everyone can be a clown for a good cause – to help get children out of poverty.
It may sound silly but Red Nose Day is an inaugural event sponsored by the non-profit group Comic Relief.
It has been happening for over 30 years in the UK- this year will be the first time the event takes place in the U.S.
The day will be filled with people from all over the U.S. getting together and sporting red noses while they raise money and awareness for the millions of kids living at or below the poverty line.
Those interested can purchase the noses at Walgreens, who will be selling them for $1 and giving the profits to the various charities associated with this event.
Walgreens is advertising it as a “good laugh for a good cause” and is also giving shoppers a chance to win a trip to NY for the May 21st NBC televised Red Nose Day show.
To enter just take a pic while wearing your red nose, then post it on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtags, #RedNose #Walgreens or #Promo.
NBC will air a 3-hour star-studded show on the 21st at 8 P.M. (EST), featuring comic sketches, music acts, celebrity appearances and more.
Among those scheduled to appear are John Legend, Sam Smith, Josh Groban, Gina Rodriguez and others that are still to be announced.
Consumers can go to Red Nose Day’s fundraiser page to donate money too.
