Today, Thursday, May 26, is Red nose Day, a day where everyone dons a red nose for a great cause: to end childhood poverty.
Sponsored by the non-profit group Comic Relief, the idea behind this day is to raise money and awareness about the millions of kids living in poverty and struggling every day for a decent meal and a safe place to live.
Those interested in participating can go to their local Walgreens to purchase a nose or other Red nose day items, like cups, glasses, bow ties and more; proceeds from sales of these items go towards the cause.
Those interested in donating can do so in a couple of ways:
-Go to Walgreen’s website, which has links to donate and a list of companies that support this cause and donate proceeds as well; companies include Coca-Cola, M & M’s, Pringles and others.
-You can visit the Red Nose Day website, which has an easy to use link to donate.
-You can call 1-800-500-4373 to donate.
-You can text “TODAY” to 8077 to donate.
Comic Relief will also have a star-studded celebrity special in honor of this event airing on NBC tonight at 9 P.M. EST.
Stars participating include Jack Black, Margo Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and more.
This is the 2nd year Red Nose Day will take place in the U.S.; it has been going on in the UK for 30 years.
