Release Date of Scarlett Johansson’s Movie ‘Lucy’ Gets Moved Up

Those anxiously awaiting the release of Scarlett Johansson’s next movie are in luck, because they’ll have two fewer weeks to wait. Universal Pictures has changed the release date of ScarJo’s new movie Lucy from August 8 to July 25.

Instead of being released the same week as the rebooted version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Lucy will now be be released the same weekend as Hercules, staring Dwayne Johnson, as well as the raunchy comedy Sex Tape, which stars Jason Segal and Cameron Diaz.

By moving up the Lucy‘s release date, Universal is trying to capitalize on Johansson’s recent box office success is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as well as her starring role in the indie flick Under the Skin.

Of course, in Captain America, ScarJo has some help from her co-stars, whereas Lucy has little star power outside of Johansson, unless you count Morgan Freeman.

In Lucy, Johansson plays the titular character who is kidnapped and forced to become a drug mule, only to develop extraordinary mental and physical abilities that allow her to fight back against her captors. It will be in theaters July 25.
