Rogue Printer Creates Fear & Worry For Wells Fargo Customers

Wells Fargo has suffered a security breach affecting customers in South Carolina and northeast Florida. The problem may spread to other locations as well. Wells Fargo spokeswoman Kathy Harrison said at this point, they are not sure how big the problem is.

According to Wells Fargo, banking customers began calling Tuesday with reports of having other customers statements mixed in with their own. The first calls came from customers in South Carolina. On Wednesday, they discovered the problem with the statements also affected customers in Florida.

Customers report that the first page of their statement contains their own information. When the statement is flipped over, the details on the second page are for different customer account. The information is reported to include names, account numbers, routing numbers, deposits and debits.

According to Wells Fargo, the error has been tracked to a malfunctioning printer. The bank is still investigating the details of the incident. Wells Fargo said that the statements do not include social security numbers or other personal details that can be misused.

Wells Fargo is offering affected customers one year of a theft protection service as compensation for the error.
