Russia and Qatar will have their first shot to host the FIFA World Cup as both countries have won their bids.
Sepp Blatter, FIFA President, was in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday for the much anticipated announcement.
Russia will have its debut as World Cup host in 2018. The country beat out England, Netherlands/Belgium and Spain/Portugal for the honor.
Qatar took the honor over its challengers including Australia, Japan, South Korea and the USA to host the 2022 tournament. This will be the first time that the World Cup has been held in the Middle East.
The USA and Australian bids were favored to be on top. The decision to go with Qatar was a slight surprise to all and has conjured up mixed reactions.
Russia won its bid by a majority in the second round of voting. Qatar beat the USA during the third and final round of voting to seal the victory.
