Samsung Galaxy Note: Android 4.0 Update Has Begun

Samsung-Galaxy-NoteSamsung Galaxy Notes, in some locations, have begun updating to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The phone was launched in January with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) installed. Samsung had promised an update sometime this year.

While there’s still no official word from Samsung about the update, numerous sites and a slew of tweets on Twitter are reporting that the big phone/small tablet is updating to the most current version of the Android operating system.

However, there may be some bad news for Note owners here in the US. So far, the only reports of the update are from users with the international version (GT-N7000) that are overseas. Its been spotty, but so far we have found reports of the update coming to users in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Australia.

The Galaxy Note update for Android 4.0 includes a variety of extra Galaxy Note features, such as the TouchWiz user interface. It also includes new S Note apps like My Story and Video Everywhere.

With the only phones receiving the update so far appearing to be the international versions of the Note, it could be a while before the update comes along for the AT&T branded version. AT&T has been mum on when an update will come out, but Samsung’s release will undoubtable put pressure on the carrier to hurry the update along.
