We reported a few days ago that Samsung decorated billboards in Times Square with the slogan ‘Be Ready 4 The Next Galaxy’, the same place where they’ll be revealing the handset tonight.
However, competitors are leveraging Samsung’s promotion to get some attention for themselves.
LG has placed a billboard of its own, at the same location, with the slogan ‘LG Optimus G is Here 4 You Now.’ The new LG promos are directly above Samsung’s billboards.
LG has owned ad space at the location for over 20 years.
Apple is elbowing in to Samsung’s spotlight as well.
Apple’s marketing head, Phil Schiller, gave two interviews yesterday in which he ranted about the S4’s OS, Android.
“Android is often given as a free replacement for a feature phone and the experience isn’t as good as an iPhone,” Schiller told the WSJ.
“We are hearing this week that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is being rumored to ship with an OS that is nearly a year old,” he told Reuters. “Customers will have to wait to get an update.”
Android as a “free replacement” is quite a put down!
So what do you think? Are LG’s and Apple’s moves smart or tacky?
