In a move to give their customers added protection, Verizon and US Cellular will be releasing the Samsung Galaxy S5 with anti-theft software pre-installed.
Verizon and US Cellular partnered with Samsung to have the Find My Mobile and Reactivation Lock features pre-loaded on all their Galaxy S5 phones.
Smartphone thefts are on the rise, so this will help reassure customers. Although it will not stop thefts completely, it does give consumers the ability to possibly find and retrieve their smartphone .
Find My Mobile is an app that can remotely track the location of, lock, or call any missing handset. It will also alert you if the SIM card is switched on the phone.
The Reactivation Lock tries to deter thieves from resetting a stolen phone to its factory settings by requiring a successful login even after the phone has been reset.
Currently there are anti-theft apps available on Google Play Store, from companies like Norton and a free lock and erase features through Google‘s Android Device Manager.
However, by having these apps pre-installed and ready-to-go, Verizon and US Cellular are giving consumers that little something extra they look for when purchasing a smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be released this Friday, April 11.
