Samsung Nexus S 4G, Cost Depends On Where It’s Bought

The Samsung Nexus S 4G launched on the Sprint network yesterday and is making a big splash in the smartphone world. The phone is similar to the Samsung Nexus that’s on T-Mobile, but is faster on Sprint’s WiMax network.

The Nexus S 4G is the first smartphone to run on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. Unlike T-Mobile’s version, the Sprint one supports Google Voice, allowing call screening, forwarding, visual  voicemail and personalized greetings. It has a 1 GHz processor. The 4 inch super-AMOLED display is designed to be bright and have less glare, even in sunlight, and the glass over the display is has a gentle curve to it. Two cameras are included in the phone, one facing forward, the other rear. 16 GB of storage is built in, there’s no microSD slot for expanding that.

The up front price for the phone depends on where it’s being bought. In Sprint stores and through their site, sprint.com, the Nexus S 4G is $549 without a contract. With a new two year contract, it’s $199.

BestBuy is offering the phone for $150 with a new two year Sprint contract.

Over at online discounter WireFly, the Nexus S 4G is $129. Through the other major online cell phone discounter, Let’s Talk, the Nexus S 4G is $139. Both of those prices are based on purchase of a new two year contract.

The monthly service fee is set by Sprint and is the same regardless of which outfit the phone is bought from. The Nexus S 4G, with it’s feature set, is designed to run on Sprint’s Everything Data plan, which as a base price of $69/month. The Premium Data Plan add-on is $10/month, and to use the mobile hot-spot feature, for connecting up to 6 wireless devices to the internet through the phone, there is another $29/month cost.
