See’s Valentine’s Day Chocolate Warning: Candy Mix-Up Could Prove Fatal

Anyone who is planning to buy their sweetheart chocolate may want to avoid the See’s brand after a candy mix-up that could be fatal to those with peanut allergies.

According to ABC News some of the companies 8 ounce Classic Red Hearts Box with assorted chocolates may have shipped for Valentine’s day containing peanuts, when there should be none in that style box.

The See’s company, which is based in San Francisco, said it was a packaging mix-up and may not be that wide spread, but they are not sure exactly how many boxes may or may not contain the peanuts.

The box normally contains chocolates with different creams or caramel inside so  anyone who bought or received the box would not suspect peanuts in the chocolate.

That could prove fatal to someone with a peanut allergy, as they can go into anaphylactic shock and stop breathing in severe cases.

They company also stressed that the mistake applies to the 8 ounce Classic Red with assorted chocolates ONLY – the other sizes and varieties are perfectly safe to eat.

If you have purchased a box containing peanuts the company says it can be returned for a full refund.

You can also contact the company if you have any questions; their toll-free number is 1-800-347-7337.

This mix-up comes with Valentine’s Day just a few days away and could be a huge loss for the company if they don’t straighten out the problem.
