Singapore Airlines will be replacing an engine in three of its Airbus A380 planes due to results from inspections this week according to the company.
The airline immediately inspected its Airbus A380 engines after an incident last week when engine failure immediately after take-off sent a Qantas plane back to the Singapore airport. Those inspections showed oil stains in a single engine on each of the three jets. The remaining eight in the fleet showed no problems.
The three jets are currently in Britain and Australia and are set to be flown back to Singapore without passengers to undergo the work needed to replace the engines.
Company spokesman Nicholas Ionides has issued a statement apologizing to customers for potential flight disruptions and requesting the understanding of its passengers.
The Airbus A380 jets are the world’s largest and are powered by Rolls-Royce engines. Earlier in the week Rolls-Royce confirmed that it had identified a problem in the Qantas jet that encountered the failure and said the issue was specific to the Trent 900 engine.
