Internet telephone giant Skype went down Wednesday leaving millions of users with problems being able to connect to the service.
The number of users on the service dropped significantly from 21 million to 10 million over the day. The official blog has labeled the drop as something that is not typical or expected.
The service, a spin-off from Ebay, has been having a problem with its connection system throughout the day on Wednesday.
Engineers have been working diligently to resolve the issue, though they weren’t sure how long the fix would take. Until it was solved, many advanced features would not work.
Outages such as this could hurt a service like Skype. They spend a lot of time trying to prove their stability next to a traditional phone service. The last major outage for the service was in August of 2007.
