Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Player w/Google TV $99 Today On Woot

The Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV is on sale for $99 today at Amazon’s famously quirky deal–of–the–day–site Woot.

That’s 50% off its regularly listed price of $199.

W00t includes a fantasy conversation between Sony and Google in their product write up. It tells a story of a powerful Sony making fun of Google as in AltaVista knockoff back in 1999. Then jumping to 2012 with Sony begging Google to return a phone call so they can work on this product together.

What comes of it is the Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV. A set-top box that attaches to an HDTV to display Google TV.

With Google TV users can more easily and efficiently search for shows to watch live or to record, browse the web, and stream videos from a number of services straight onto the TV.

Of course, much of this can now be done with the $35 Chromecast from Google. But not all of it, and the Sony NSZ-GS7 comes with its own voice enabled remote control.

Sony does have a new product on the market called the Bravia Smart Stick which does much the same thing as the set-top box, but is a dongle that plugs in to the TVs HDMI port much like the Chromecast does. It also comes with its own remote control, but those cost a bit more. $149.99.

Woot’s $99 deal is definitely a good price compared to most other sites. A survey of our usual haunts finds it running generally from $120 to $150 in most cases. However TigerDirect also has it available for $99.

Are you interested in the Sony NSZ-GS7 with Google TV at this price, will you be holding out for a deal on the Bravia Smart Stick?
