Sprint: Switch & Get 50% Off Your Bill EVERY Month- Is It Worth The Savings?

Sprint, 4th in mobile carrier service, is looking to move up in the ranks with a huge promotional discount aimed at putting a dent in the competition.

And while it may garner some new customer with this 50% off deal, the question remains: is it worth it?

Let’s take a look at the offer and see:

Starting tomorrow, Friday, November 20, and running through January 7, 2016, Sprint’s offering 50% off to anyone who switches over from T-Mobile, Verizon or AT&T (except for those with T-Mobile’s $95 unlimited data plan).

For example, if you currently have a plan with AT&T and pay $80 a month for 6 GB of data Sprint will give you the same plan for$40.

Sprint will also pay your fees to switch over (up to $650), provided you trade in your smartphone.

The one exception, as I mentioned earlier, is T-Mobile’s unlimited data package for $95, which is not eligible for the promotion.

Sprint currently has a $70 unlimited data package and is banking on the lower price being enough to lure customers over.

Now 50% off is a definite plus, but there are some drawbacks to this plan that those switching over need to consider.

To start, if you want to avoid fees you need to turn in your current phone, which may result in you having to put out money towards a new one (depending on trade-in value and what you want).

Then there’s the fact that AT&T  and T-Mobile users will not be able to roll over data any longer, as Sprint does not have that feature.

So if you don’t use up your data every month, you may be losing out in the long run.

In addition, Sprint will not be matching T-Mobile’s new unlimited video and music streaming package, which lets them stream without using their data.

So if you (or your kids) stream video on a regular basis you will now be using up data, which could require you to get more data or incur costly overages.

Finally, Sprint’s coverage is less than stellar, which is the main reason it’s ranked 4th behind the Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T.

So while it’s always nice to save money, doing so at the expense of having coverage you can rely on may cost you more than its worth.

I don’t know about you, but I need my phone to work wherever I am- paying less is no bargain if I’m using it less.

Oh, and the offer is not available for current Sprint customers: call me crazy, but I would think keeping current customers happy (and loyal) is just as important as signing new ones.

What do you think of Sprint’s new 50% off promotion to get consumers to switch over?
