Star Wars fans rejoice!
On Thursday, StarWars.com announced a new release date for the next installment in the Star Wars series.
Lucasfilm’s highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to hit theaters December 18, 2015.
Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios stated, “We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture.”
Pre-production has commenced. Filming is expected to begin spring 2014 in London.
J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII. Abrams is known for such recent films as Super 8 and Star Trek.
Abrams will also serve as a producer, along with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and film and television producer Bryan Burk.
Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin will serve as executive producers.
