Summer Movie Preview 2016: The Most Anticipated Summer Movies [Video]

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and so is the release of tons of highly-anticipated summer movies for 2016.

From animated must-see’s to captivating thrillers, there is something for everyone and my summer movie preview will give you a sneak peek at all of them.

Check out my list below and mark your calendars because there’s nothing better than a great film, buttered popcorn and air conditioning as the temperatures rise.

You can also see trailers for the films featured below.

“X-Men Apocalypse”– Opens Friday, May 27.

Featuring an all-star cast, including Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michale Fassbender, this latest X-men film is sure to delight die-hard super hero fans everywhere.

Packed with action sequences that are bigger than ever before, it is sure to be a box-office hit this Memorial Day weekend.

Personally, I’m on the fence about this one. I like the X-men series, but with some of the original cast is missing from this film (hello Wolverine) and a focus on stunts I’m hesitant, but hopeful it will be as great as the previews look.

“Now You See Me: The Second Act”– Opens June 10

The follow up to the 2013 movie “Now You See Me,” this mystery/comedy centered around magicians and illusionists is a hidden gem movie goers will want to catch.

Featuring the original cast (Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Hasrrelson and Morgan Freeman), plus the addition of Daniel Radcliffe, this 2nd film takes the Four Horsemen, and the audience on another spell-binding ride as they work to clear their names.

Let me just say I recommend the original, and this movie, to everyone.

I saw part one on DVD and wished I’d seen it in the theaters afterwards because if ever there was a movie meant for theaters this is it.

It is magically clever, drawing you in and keeping your attention from start to finish, with great illusion, funny lines and impeccable acting.  Watch the first, then make sure you go see the 2nd one in theaters.

“Finding Dory”– Opens June 17

Featuring the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Ty Burrell, Diane Keaton, Albert Brooks and more, this sequel to “Finding Nemo” is a sweet afternoon diversion for kids everywhere.

This film centers around Dory’s (Ellen DeGeneres) search for her mom, with the help of Nemo and Marlin.

Filled with lots of comic moments, kids will love it and adults will be amused.

“The BFG”– Opens July 1

This is director Steven Speilberg’s 1st Disney film (yes, 1st!) and it looks to be just as enchanting as his other classic films.

Based on Roald Dahl’s children’s books, this is the story of a young girl Sofia and her encounter with a Big Friendly Giant (BFG).

Anyone who loved ET will appreciate this movie, as it invokes that seem feel, taking young and old on a magical ride to another world.

“The Secret Life of Pets”– Opens July 8

With voice-overs from Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Dana Carvey and others, this animated film about what our pets do when their home alone will have young and old movie-goers laughing and smiling.

Dogs, cats and birds all take center stage, getting into trouble and causing mayhem when “mom” and “dad” go off to work.

I must admit, this is on my must-see list and it has nothing to to do with me having 2 small boys,.

The previews look hysterical (especially fat-cat Chloe) so fingers crossed it’s as good as it looks- a definite must for families AND adults (there, you have permission to watch without kids).

“Ghostbusters”– Opens July 15th

This all-girl remake of the original, iconic Ghostbusters movie is meant to pay homage to it, but it may be more hype than substance.

Starring fan-favorite (she’s one of mine) Melissa McCarthy, along with Kristen Wig (another fav of mine), Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, this movie follows along as the first, with the group trying to rid New York city of slimy ghosts.

Given this power-house cast of comedians, previews look a bit ho-hum and not as funny as it should be. It’s worth a shot- at the very least you’ll be cool, even if you’re not amused

“Jason Bourne”– Opens July 29.

Jason Bourne, and Matt Damon, are back for the 5th installment in this action-thriller series that manages to stay fresh and captivating again and again.

Director Paul Greegrass is back for this film, where the action is only surpassed by the shocking, but plausible plot twists.

Bourne may have his memory back, but he doesn’t know everything and he will take the audience on a journey to find the answers he’s looking for.

The Bourne series is one of my favorites (next to Lethal Weapon and the original Die Hard) and if you enjoy a smart thriller that makes you think and guess then this is the perfect summer movie to see.

“Suicide Squad”– Opens August 5th

This is one of most anticipated movies of the summer, and one of the most divisive, as fans are already arguing about Jared Leto’s performance as the ever-evolving Joker.

Starring Leto, Margo Robbie, Will Smith and others, this isn’t your typical super-hero movie, as the main characters are all super villains who agree to help the government.

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding this movie, both good and bad, but the previews look really interesting and I’m a big fan of Leto’s, so check it out- but adults only!

What movies are you looking most forward to seeing this summer?
