System Shock 2 Free For A Limited Time

The classic PC game, System Shock 2, is now available free on gog.com – but not for long!

To commemorate GOG’s (Good Old Games) summer sale, it is offering the 1999 classic free to anyone who downloads the website’s client software, GOG Galaxy.

The sale itself is available for 36 hours, ending Friday, 9 am EST. GOG normally sells the game on its digital store shelf, with a standard retail price of $9.99.

While getting the game is easy, there are steps to take. First, go to this website and download the client. Once the program is installed, log in, then scroll down to find the banner that offers the game. It will automatically be transferred to your digital GOG library. The game will be immediately available to download and is DRM free.

System Shock and its sequel, both by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios, introduced gamers to roleplaying elements within a cyberpunk universe. It combined first-person shooter elements with cybernetic enhancements that gave the player an edge over their varied opponents. Both games routinely appear on lists of the greatest games of all time. The franchise’s villain, the evil A.I. Shodan, is often cited as one of the standout characteristics.

System Shock and its sequel are the predecessors to the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Bioshock series.

Will you be taking advantage of this sale? Have you ever played this classic gem? What’s your favorite moment?
