Target Canada is currently hiring hundreds – soon to be thousands – of new employees in anticipation of opening its first 135 stores in Canada in March 2013.
The company is planning to hire “tens of thousands” Canadians, an estimated 150 to 200 employees per store.
So far, Target Canada has hired 35 employees, mainly in senior positions. At least 20 of whom have begun working with executives from the U.S. retailer.
Target Canada plans to hire 500 people in its head office located in Mississauga, Ontario.
“Our goal in the U.S. is to be very competitive in the marketplace.” states the vice-president of human resources for Target Canada, Tiffany Monroe. “We pride ourselves on having one of the best compensation packages in the [retail] industry.”
“There will be ongoing job opportunities that will get posted over the coming months,” says Monroe. “People can sign up for alerts. It’s very similar to the way we do hiring in the U.S.”
The retail chain is expected to have a huge impact on Canada. Within a decade, Target Canada is expected to generate $6 billion a year in sales.
