Target to Donate $5 Million to US Schools

Target announced on August 14th, 2013 that they will be donating $5 million to schools across the US.

Target’s education fund, Give With Target, is now also allowing guests to donate to specific schools in need,  instead of only one select list.

Every week you can take a look at Target’s Facebook page and vote for a school of your choosing. You can either vote for one already listed or choose any in-need neighborhood school.

Once it gets 25 votes, a $25 donation will be given, plus $1.00 for each additional vote (with a $10 000 maximum per school).

The fund will run until September 21st, or until the whole of the $5 million is allocated.

Target has also included a lineup of celebrities to help promote the cause. Actresses Sophia Bush and Lala Anthony, country music crooner Luke Bryan, Dancing With The Stars Donald Driver and Olympic gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas, will all be rallying for the participating schools.

Target’s overall goal is to donate $1 billion towards education by 2015.

“By rallying communities across the country in support of education, Target is playing a role in helping put more kids on the path to high school graduation.” said Laysha Ward, Target’s President of Community Relations.

In 2012, Target’s Give With Target program helped out more than 30,000 schools and aims to do the same this year. Funds were used to help low-income schools buy computers, school supplies, bookshelves, and other classroom necessities.
