Texas is currently experiencing its most destructive wildfire on record with no sign of slowing down. More than 25,000 acres in Bastrop County have been destroyed by the uncontrollable blaze.
More than 1,000 homes have been destroyed by the fires, and more than 60 new wildfires have branched from the first.
Local fire officials blame a San Antonio Water System truck for sparking the fire.
According to the Fire Department and Red Cross, the fire began at 1:30 p.m. in a field off of Stone Oak Parkway and Evan Roads on and immediately spread, prompting countless evacuations at apartment and estates in the area.
500 people were evacuated in Williams County, where a 300-acre fire destroyed at least eight homes.
The Bastrop County Complex Fire, pushed by strong winds and fed by dry plants, have made it nearly unstoppable. The fire has jumped the Colorado River twice.
“We will be working days on end,” said Mike Fisher, Bastrop County’s emergency management coordinator. “The fire is so dynamic we really have no idea where it is.”
Power has been cut to 3,800 homes, claim Bastrop County officials.
Officials aren’t sure when the fires will be contained, or when residents will be able to return to their homes.
More than 250 firefighters from around the country have traveled to Bastrop to help stop the wildfires, and more are currently on the way.
Since December 2010, an estimated 3.5 million acres have been devastated by fires.
