The Bachelorette Recap – Love & Tears In Atlantic City

This week, The Bachelorette heads off to Atlantic City!  Because….if you are staying in LA and want a fun weekend of entertainment and gambling, you of course go all the way to Atlantic City?

Brad gets the first one-on-one date in AC and I’m pretty sure this is the first time he’s gotten any camera time at all.  Most people watching thought, “Brad who?” when his name was announced.  Their date starts with a trip to the boardwalk; riding the rides, walking around, and playing games.

They somehow end up walking around a candy factory and super hygienically steal food off the conveyer belts and smoosh it all over each other’s faces.  It’s like that episode of I Love Lucy except more staged.  The left behind guys watch Des and Brad from their hotel window as they ride the carousel and one of them laments, “They’re on the carousel…things always happen on a carousel!”  By “things” I’m assuming he means sticky fingered kids barfing on it?

Des and Brad’s date ends with a romantic picnic on the beach sitting on a sand castle throne; normal stuff, you guys.  All I can think about is how itchy all that sand much be and how much I wouldn’t want to eat there.  Their dinner ends up super awkward and quiet and it’s probably the first time in Bachelor/Bachelorette history you actually see the couple eat their food.  Not a great sign.

Des and Brad hoof it up a historic lighthouse where Des gives sweet Brad the boot.

For the group date, Des and 11 of the guys travel to Boardwalk Hall where the guys find out they will be competing in a Mr. America competition.  Michael G tells the camera that he has always dreamt of being Mr. America.  If that’s not husband material, I don’t know what is.

I cannot even put into words the ridiculousness that is the preparation for this pageant.  I just…you guys, I can’t.

So, long story short, Kasey wins the pageant.  Your mother must be so proud, Kasey.  Nice sash.

After that display of epic manliness, Des and the guys head over to the pool for drinks, talks, and an excuse to show everyone in their bathing suits again.  The guys steal Des away for one-on-one talks and in between talk as much crap as they can about Ben.  In the end, Des gives the group date rose to Zak.

James one-on-one is definitely not romantic, but it makes for good television.  He and Des take a tour of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy; both eventually breaking into tears over it.  After their emotional tour, Des and James are introduced to a cute old couple who were affected by the storm.  Des and James decide to give their extravagant date to the affected couple.  Which is super staged, but sweet nonetheless.

Having given up their fancy date, Des and James head off to a bar for some pizza and beer.  Their initial chemistry is really cute until James opens up and admits that he cheated on his last serious girlfriend.   Though it’s an awkward moment, Des eventually admits she likes his honesty and gives him a rose.

At the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party, Bryden questions whether or not he should stay on the show.  In his one-on-one time with Des, he tells her his feelings and Des convinces him to stay.

At the rose ceremony, Des sends home Zack K, a guy I have literally never noticed on this show before.

Next week, Des and the guys are off to Germany where drama explodes surrounding Ben and James.
