According to the experts, there’s one particular New Year’s Eve movie that stands out as the best. For many of you, it won’t be a surprise.
The 1989 American romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally is at or near the top of each list of best New Year’s Eve movies we checked this evening.
Entertainment Weekly ranked it #1 on their list and wrote of the film “Possibly the greatest New Year’s Eve scene of all: After years as friends with (occasional) benefits, Harry (Billy Crystal) finally declares his love for Sally (Meg Ryan). The best quote? ”It’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve,” Harry says after party-crashing. ”I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
Readers over at AMC currently have When Harry Met Sally ranked #1 on their list as well (the voting is continuing at publication time). The original Poseidon Adventure (one of our favorites) is ranked #2, followed by The Apartment.
Hollywire has When Harry Met Sally at the top of their best New Year’s Eve kisses in movies.
Even the Huffington Post got into the act with their own best New Year’s Eve movie list – naming When Harry Met Sally at #1.
