There has been a voluntary recall on approximately 7,460 units of the Burlington Coat Factory’s slow cooker. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that consumers should discontinue use of the recalled item immediately unless otherwise instructed by the manufacturer.
The slow cooker hazard and reason behind the decision to recall is due to the overheating of the control panel. Units may potentially melt and pose a fire hazard. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, “The manufacturer has received 60 reports of the control panels smoking, melting and sparking, and three reports of panels catching fire. Fourteen incidents resulted in minor damage to counter tops. No injuries have been reported.”
The recall specifically involves the Bella Kitchen 5-qt slow cooker. They are black with the logo “Bella Kitchen” printed on the control panel. Consumers can identify potentially hazardous units by locating the model numbers WJ-5000DE and the dates 0907 and 0909. They were sold and distributed by the Burlington Coat Factory retail stores between June 2010 and December 2010 for approximately 20.00 USD.
Consumers are encouraged to stop using the slow cooker, unplug it and return the unit to the nearest Burlington Coat Factory location for refunds or store merchandise credit.
