The Google Chromebook Pixel – Features, Price & Availability

The new Google Chromebook Pixel

Google unveiled it’s new laptop today, the Chromebook Pixel.

The Pixel seems to be Google’s answer to the high-end touch screen notebooks that are hitting the market. While the regular Chromebook normally runs at $552.50 on Amazon.com, this new Chromebook Pixel will be priced at a more steep $1,299.

That’s not to say that the Pixel isn’t worth the steep price. The new Chromebook will run on the Chrome OS, and will feature a top of the line touch screen.

Google states on it’s web site: “This Chromebook has the highest pixel density (239 pixels per inch) of any laptop screen on the market today.”

Pretty powerful words in the world of computers. It’s not hard to tell they are targeting Apple’s retina display with that kind of talk.

The system also comes with an Intel Core i5 processor and has a solid state flash hard drive which makes moving from program to program smooth and quick.

It will also come with one terabyte of cloud storage, confirming that Google is counting on everyone storing everything they need online for quick and easy use. The cloud storage will be free for three years, after that you will have to pay whatever price it is at the time for the storage. Or you can buy a new Google Chrome product and get the cloud storage for free again.

As for the outside, the Pixel will be made of a smooth anodized aluminum. It will also hide all screws and vents to give the Chromebook a polished look. Even the full-range speakers are tucked away under the keyboard (conveniently back lit), so that you can’t see them. The built in webcam is a nice 780p, for taking nice clean and clear videos.

All in all the Pixel sounds like something that I would like to buy, or at the very least try.

The price tag will be what most people will stick on, but if it is all it is cracked up to be, shoppers will pay the price. After all, they pay that price (at least) for the new MacBooks. Just another step in the war between Google and Apple.

The Pixel is available starting today at Google Play and will soon be available at BestBuy.com, according to Google.

What do you guys think of the new Chromebook Pixel? Does it sound like it’s worth the price?
