‘The Lion King’ TV Movie Spin-Off Announced for 2015

Disney Junior has announced a TV movie spin-off of The Lion King set for 2015.

The Lion Guard will feature Kion, Simba and Nala’s second-born lion cub, as the leader of a group of mismatched friends to preserve the Pride Lands. Many returning characters from the original 1994 movie will appear as well, including Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, and Zazu.

The Lion King is celebrating its 20th anniversary and has grossed over $987.4 million worldwideIt has already been followed by a sequel, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, and The Lion King 1 1/2, which told the story of how unlikely friends Timon and Pumbaa first met.

No voice cast has been announced yet.

Geared towards ages 2-7, a spin-off series has also been announced for 2016 and plans to retain the same family themes and values as its predecessors.
