The Voice Live Playoffs Night 2 Recap: Team Gwen & Team Pharrell Perform

It’s Night 2 of the Live Playoffs on NBC’s Season 7 of The Voice as Team Gwen and Team Pharrell are set to perform.

Last night, Team Blake and Team Adam gave some unforgettable performances. Did Gwen and Pharrell’s team do the same?!

Well, let’s recap some of tonight’s best performances.

Team Pharrell’s Elyjuh Rene performs “Latch” by Sam Smith

Elyjuh gave a fantastically soulful performance of Sam Smith’s “Latch.” He added his own special twists to the song as he infused intricate runs and even boldly transitioned into a seamless falsetto. His performance tonight proved that this 18-year-old is a force to be reckoned with.

Gwen, Adam, and Pharrell all gave a standing ovation for his performance.

Gwen says, “WOW! The way you are so in control of your body, just when you were swaying I was into it. The way you walk on the stage so smoothly and then singing like that is really mind blowing. This was a good song choice. You are so talented.”

Adam says, “It’s unbelievable how good that was. It was so precisely perfect and soulful. Pharrell definitely has one of the best teams on the show and I believe you are a frontrunner on one of the strongest teams.”

Blake says, “The way you navigate a melody with all the different runs, I definitely think you are the one to beat on Pharrell’s team.”

Pharrell says, “I am super proud of you. You came up here and showed everyone who, what, where, when and how Elyjuh is.”

Team Pharrell’s Luke Wade “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye

Luke Wade gave an effortless performance of “Let’s Get It On.” It was a great song choice for another one of Pharrell’s soulful artists. He sang the song with such confidence and ease as he showcased the pure and raw quality to his extraordinary voice.

Gwen says, “I got so lost in the moment. The tone of your voice is so beautiful. You did an incredible job!”

Adam says, “You’re amazing. Everything you do is just so great every time. You did your thing. You did something totally different. It was all “Luka-fied.”

Blake says, “That was a tough song to do. You had fun with it and blew it out of the water.”

Pharrell says, “Listen, “#Luka-fied.”

Team Gwen’s Anita Antoinette performs “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor

Anita brilliantly incorporated her signature reggae style to her performance of “All About That Bass.” She embraced a spunky attitude for the song and really just commanded the stage with her performance.

Adam says, “Who are you and what have you done with Anita. That performance was so great.”

Blake says that it is really hard to believe that Anita is somebody who had stage fright because tonight she proved that she has a natural stage presence.

Pharell says he is very proud of Anita and is positive that she is making her hometown of Jamica very proud as well.

Team Pharrell’s Sugar Jones performs “Say A Little Prayer For You” by Aretha Franklin

Sugar’s performance tonight proved that she is an artist who is capable of creating a modern soul record. Her beyond powerful performance showed that she is able to take a classic song, modernize it and make it her own. She easily has one of the strongest female voices this season.

Gwen says, “You just had your moment, that was so perfect for you. Everything you are was shining real sparkly right there.”

Adam says, “That was church. I can’t believe that voice comes out of you.”

Blake says, “That was the best performance of the night for me. In my opinion, your vibrato comes from no man’s land. You have such a unique sound. I love and adore it.”

Pharrell says, “I am so proud of you. You did it! I felt every moment of it. You took us on a nice emotional roller coaster ride. I am excited to work with you more in the future.”
