The Voice Season 5 Final Night of Battle Rounds Recap

The Voice Season 5 Final Night of Battle Rounds Recap

It’s the final night of Battles on tonight’s episode of NBC’s Season 5 of The Voice 2013.

The pressure is on as Coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green approach the closure of the battle rounds and will soon after have their teams enter the knockout rounds.

To top things off, all the coaches have used their two steals, except for Cee Lo, who has one steal left.

Who will he steal tonight? Who shined bright in tonight’s battle rounds? Well, let’s recap tonight’s final night of battles.

Team Cee Lo’s Jonny Gray vs. Shawn Smith “Refugee” by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

This was the battle of the military rockers. It was evident from the start that this was a song perfectly suited for Jonny’s voice. He’s got this purely authentic rocker tone that really captivates and lures you in. On the other hand, Shawn did a good job of showcasing his raspy tone and did a better job of delivering the lyrics of the song.

Adam says, “I believed everything you guys just did. I was thoroughly impressed by both you guys. That was a wonderful performance. If I had to choose, I’d probably go with Jonny.”

Blake expresses, “Neither one of you held one thing back,” while Christina commends Shawn for feeling the song, but tells Jonny that he is her biggest regret in terms of not pushing her button for him during the auditions. Wow, big compliment from Christina!

Cee Lo says that there is something phonetic about Jonny, while Shawn really commands and moves him.

Ultimately Cee Lo chooses Jonny Gray as the Winner of the battle!

Team Adam’s Barry Black vs. Preston Pohl perform The Temptations “I Wish It Would Rain”

The battle of the Soul singers ensued between Barry and Preston.

Preston revealed his distinctly classic voice intermixed with his commanding raspy tone. Barry showcased more of a sweeter and softer soulful vocal infusing the song with a sexy falsetto and his signature air horn.

Blake praises Barry for his air horn, while stating: “Everything about you is cool. It just works.”

Christina says that Preston has the kind of voice that you can’t buy from a vocal lesson, while emphasizing that he is the definite winner of this battle.

While Cee Lo also agrees that Preston is the clear winner, Adam says both singers did the song justice. He says Barry’s horn was very natural and is a testament of his character, but says, “The second Preston starts singing, I get goosebumps.”

Adam ends up choosing Preston as the Winner.

Team Christina’s Olivia Henken vs. Stephanie Anne Johnson “Done” by The Band Perry

It was pretty clear that this is a perfect song for country singer Olivia. She sang the song with sass and hit some crazy upper register notes. This song of course was more of a challenge for Stephanie, but she rose to the occasion, offering her own special soulful, yet spunky twist to the song.

Cee Lo tells Stephanie, “You couldn’t tell that you haven’t heard this record at all. You made it yours. You gave it soul. You put it all out there on the stage.”

Adam agrees saying that the nugget of grit Stephanie gave leads him to favor her over Olivia. However, Blake favors Olivia, commending her for hitting the upper notes so easily.

Ultimately, Christina ends up choosing Olivia Henken! Moments later, Cee Lo ends up stealing Stephanie!

And that’s a rap of tonight’s final night of battles. Next week, Season 5 of The Voice will enter The Knockout Rounds with a special twist. The coaches will be allowed to steal contestants from other teams in this round too! It will definitely be interesting to see what happens!
