The Voice Season 7 Top 5 Recap of Performances

Tonight on NBC’s Season 7 of The Voice, the Top 5 perform for America’s votes. During tonight’s semi-finals, the contests will perform two songs each. The first song is their coaches’ pick, while the second is a song the contestants picked to dedicate to their hometowns.

Let’s recap some of the best performances of the night.

Round 1 Coaches Pick

Team Adam’s Damien performs “She’s Outta My Life” by Michael Jackson

Every time Damien hits The Voice stage he always delivers a flawless vocal. He colored the song with a beautiful vibrato and brilliantly executed the emotion embedded within the song.

Damien received a standing ovation by all the coaches.

Blake says, “That’s one of the most perfect performances I’ve ever heard on this stage. Every time you come out here, I am always on the edge of my seat. This is just another step up the ladder. Great job.”

Pharrell says, “I love how every time you get on here, you are telling your story and it never gets old. You really deserve your position in this show.”

Gwen says, “ It’s always dangerous to sing a Michael Jackson song, but that was so beautiful. Your emotion that you are able to bring is just beyond. It was gorgeous.”

Adam says, “This is the most coachable guy. This song was the best thing for you to do. You did an unbelievable job.”

Matt McAndrew performs “Make It Rain” by Ed Sheeran

Wow! This was the perfect song choice for Matt. He sang the song so magnificently as he showcased his powerful upper and lower register. With his distinctly pure tone, Matt succeeded in performing an excellent delivery of the lyrics. This was a beyond stellar performance and definitely makes us believe that Matt stole Round 1.

Matt received a standing ovation by all the coaches.

Blake says, “That was a Grammy Award type of performance.”

Pharrell says, “There are not many rock star singers that can sing the way you do so I am going to just take the word rock away and say you are a star.”

Gwen says, “You are such a sweet contradiction. You look like this sweet guy and then you sing with this unbelievable voice. The tone of your voice gives me chills. It was amazing.”

Adam says, “You astound me all the time and I think it’s because there is nobody more humble and laid back than this guy. You can literally do anything. You blow me away. The Voice has never had a guy that can do everything so effortlessly and smoothly like you do.”

Round 2: Contestants’ pick in dedication to their Hometowns

Matt McAndrew performs “I Still Haven’t Found What I am Looking For” by U2

Matt gave another strong performance of U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I am Looking For.” It felt like he was performing his own single on stage. It was quite an electrifying performance.

Blake says, “You make it seem so effortless, what you do in the verses of a performance most of us hope to do at the end of the song.”

Pharrell says, “Bono would be so happy and so proud for the handling of that performance. What an execution cause you killed it.”

Gwen says, “You are just so unique. Your voice is so rich. It’s magic.”

Adam says, “I don’t know what to say anymore. The audience says it all. Just Wow.”

Taylor John Williams performs “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift

Taylor always shines when he changes up the arrangement of a song and makes it his own. He did just that during his performance of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.” He created a haunting and dark vibe to the popular Swift song. It was definitely a very risky, yet interesting take on the song.

Adam says, “That was awesome. Great Job. It’s really great that you are taking these songs and reworking them and it has become your thing on the show.”

Gwen says, “You deserve so much. You are a true artist. You’re amazing.”

Chris Jamison performs “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars

This was such a great song choice for Chris as it fit his voice like a glove. He was not only able to show his incredible vocal range, but once again was able to infuse his signature falsetto to the song. It was such a gorgeously executed and passionate vocal performance.

Pharrell says, “All I can say is that anyone back in Pittsburgh is still standing on their feet for you.”

Gwen says, “That was my favorite performance you did on the show. You love singing and I just saw that tonight.”

Adam says, “Tonight we almost forgot about Bruno’s song and it was all about Chris’ version of that song. I am so proud of you.”
