The Voice Top 6 Recap of Best Performances

The Voice Top 6 Recap of Best Performances

Tonight on NBC’s Season 5 of The Voice, The top 6 perform two songs each. One song is a dedication song, while the other is a song chosen by the contestants’ coaches.

Let’s get right into our recap of some of the best performances of the night!

Team Blake’s Cole Vosbury performs “Rich Girl” by Hall & Oates
This was such a great song choice for Cole. There is this fresh cool ease about him when he performs. We adore the raspy texture in his voice and the effortlessness in the way he performs.

Blake says,“You are such a pro, that performance could be recorded right now.”

Cee Lo says, “Great job tonight. I am a big fan of you, I definitely consider you a great talent.”

Adam expresses, “You have an incredibly great voice. It’s always a pleasure to hear you sing.”

Matthew Schuler performs One Direction’s “The Story Of My Life”

This was an excellent song choice for Matthew. It perfectly suits his Indie Rock/alternative voice. Starting off with a quiet whisper, Matthew took his time delivering each lyric with such emotional depth and by the time he reached the chorus our hearts melted. We were really impressed, especially when he so swiftly transitioned into a beautifully delivered key change.

Christina says, “You always have this way of truly making songs your own.” The modulation took it to another place. The stage suits you so well.”

Adam says that after his “Hallelujah” performance it is just too hard to top that so he likes how Matthew went in different directions in terms of his song choices. He then states: “You can kind of tread any ground you want to.”

Team Adam’s Will Champlin performs Sam Cooke’s “ A Change Is Gonna Come”

Last Week, Will gave one of the best performances on The Voice when he sang Etta James’ “At Last.” Tonight he once again blew us away with his rendition of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” This dude has an unbelievable vocal range. He’s got the rasp and an equally stellar upper and lower register. The thing we love most about him is that each time he steps onto the stage his voice is filled with so much passion.

Adam commends Will for having the courage to sing in his own way with the grit in his voice. He praises Will for his authenticity and optimism.

Cee-lo says, “You definitely got soul and more importantly you got heart.” Couldn’t agree more with Cee-Lo on that!

Jacquie Lee performs “Cry Baby” by Janis Joplin
Jacquie once again showed the immense power in her voice with her cover of Janis Joplin’s “Cry Baby.” As usual she hit some crazy high notes and perfectly sprinkled in the gravely texture in her voice.

Christina tells the audience “she left her heart on the stage for all of you.” She then tells Jacquie “I’m so proud of you, I see the courage in you and the growth in your belief in yourself.”

Cee Lo says, “You truly embody that aspiration at such a young age. He then commends Coach Christina for choosing the most eccentric, yet dynamic variety of song choices.

Tessanne Chin performs “Unconditionally” by Katy Perry
There is no denying Tessanne is the powerhouse vocalist of the season. Her rendition of Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally” was quite flawless. She hit every note with such ease, but more importantly you can tell she was emotionally connected to the song.

Adam expresses that there are a lot of ground to cover when singing a Katy Perry song, but he wasn’t worried about it with Tessanne. He states: “Your ability is crazy off the charts. I’m always drawn in. You always impress me with your vocals and you are such a beautiful human being.”

Blake says: “You are a world-class vocalist. Every time you are up there you can sing with the best vocalist on earth. I haven’t seen anything quite like you on this show!”

Matthew Schuler performs “When A Man Loves A Woman” Percy Sledge
This was another great performance for Matthew, but will it be enough to keep him around? We certainly hope so! This song showcases a classically soulful/bluesy side to Matthew and we absolutely adored every bit of it! He really grabbed our attention as you could tell he was emotionally invested in the song.

Christina says, “It really takes a great vocalist to be able to embody any genre of music. You have really shown how many things you can do. You keep digging deep within yourself. It was really phenomenal to see you to take it back to basics.”

Blake says, “That was great, that was as good as I’ve ever heard you sing.”

Will Champlin performs Avicii’s “Hey Brother”

This was definitely a unique song choice for Will, but he definitely pulled it off. We love how he consistently challenges himself by revealing the different sides to his voice. This song gave him the opportunity to show the Indie folk/rock side to Will’s voice. We have to say he not only gave a great vocal performance, but we also really loved hearing him play the banjo. It is evident that he is not only a great vocalist, but also an amazing musician.

Adam says, “You are a really powerful vocalist. I’m just a fan of yours. Every time I hear you sing, I want to hear more. Your wheels in your brain are always turning even on stage. You are a very ambitious singer and I love that.”

Blake says that he has never heard this song before, but he really liked it and loved that Will played the banjo.

Well, that does it for our recap of our favorite performances tonight!

The question is, who was your favorite performance tonight?! We want to know! Leave your thoughts below!
