dont-look-back-638x425While viewers were still catching their breath from episode 14 of AMC’s The Walking Dead, The Talking Dead aired a sneak peek of episode 15 “Us.”

As the closing credits rolled, viewers heard Joe’s philosophy, “When men like us follow rules, the world becomes ours,” to which Daryl replies, “There are no rules.”

The only rules in this post apocalyptic world are those of survival. The Walking Dead has pushed the envelope and no life is safe, not even children.

This doesn’t bode well for Beth Greene, who is still missing in action. Gentle Beth is very much like sweet Mika, and Mika did not survive the ultimate betrayal.

Some allusions to Beth were made in tonight’s “Talking Dead” sneak peek.

As a man in Joe’s group taunts Daryl about “the rules of the hunt,” he may push Daryl too far. He crassly speculates Daryl is troubled about losing a lady. This cretin also asks if Daryl’s  love interest was a “little one,” and with that Daryl reaches for his hunting knife.

This is likely what prompts Joe’s speech about rules. It is clear the men of Joe’s group have little regard for women and the role they fill in survival. It’s also clear that Daryl won’t stand for their perversion and is pushed closer to the edge. It’s gratifying to see Daryl evolve past the crudeness of this new group of travelers.

Pushing the limit is echoed by Abraham’s comment, “Tomorrow we go to the end of the line.” The question remains, just what waits for our survivors at the end of the line, and who will live to see it? shares a short ominous description of next week’s episode. It reads, “Survivors rely on brutality and faith.” These two opposing forces provide profound conflict potential.

Throughout season 4, viewers have watched characters struggle with hope. The audience is constantly led to question if hope is a helpful or hurtful force.

In the meantime, all we can do is wait. Who do you think will make it to the end of the line? Will Beth be among them?
