This Is Us Spoilers: Hidden Clues Reveal Jack Is….Dead

Last night’s jaw-dropping final moment of episode 2 of This Is Us has fans wondering and waiting to see what comes next.

Well, I think I have the answer.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!!! Stop reading if you didn’t watch last night’s episode or don’t want to know what’s coming.

Ok, let’s do a brief recap before I share my theory of why I think Jack is dead.

Calm down, I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s not as bad as it sounds, and it makes the most sense- you’ll see.

So, in the final scene of what was another fantastic episode, fans see Randall, his wife and the kids with William when the bell rings.

The kids run to get it, shouting from off camera: “it’s grandma and grandpa,” causing William to go scurrying upstairs and hide.

Really, who can blame him?

As Randall turns to see his mom and dad, the camera shows an aged Rebecca… and Miguel!!!

Miguel, you’ll recall, debuted earlier in the episode in flashbacks as Jack’s best friend, who was trying to help Jack keep his wife, and also seemed to be carrying a torch for her.

So naturally, everyone, including me, was looking at the screen, mouth wide-open catching flies, thinking:”No, Rebecca, how could you?”

I was also thinking other, less nice things, but I digress.

The point is, everyone saw that and wondered not just why Rebecca was with Miguel but how and when.

More importantly, where is Jack? Are they divorced? Is he dead?

Well, after taking a second to clear my head and look back over the episode, I’m pretty sure Jack, in present time, is dead.

Why? Well, there are several clues, the biggest being that in that final scene Rebecca is still wearing the necklace Jack gave her.

I doubt if they divorced, or she cheated with Miguel, she would still be wearing a necklace she swore to: “never take off.”

Which leads me to clue number 2: the kids call him grandpa.

Sorry, but I don’t see any of them calling Miguel grandpa if he broke up their parents marriage.

Call me crazy, but destroying mom and dad’s reationship doesn’t lead to warm and fuzzy feelings for the man responsible.

Yes, it is the grand kids calling him that, but I don’t see Randall, or his no-nonsense wife, letting that happen if they aren’t on good terms with Miguel.

Which leads me to the third clue: Randall, Kevin and Kate have mentioned Jack and his wise words repeatedly.

If Jack didn’t clean up his act all those years ago, and Rebecca left him for Miguel, it doesn’t make sense that they speak so highly and fondly of him.

That’s why I think it will be revealed that Jack got sober and he and Rebecca had a good life.

It was after his passing, later in life, that she turned to Miguel.

At least, that’s what I think. Not the happy ending you may have been imagining, but much better than the alternative.

Who knew death would be better than cheating?

So, what do you think of my theory?
