“Hey! Toss me that litter!” This simple phrase has become associated with Tidy Cats LightWeight litter since the day it hit the shelves, but should you catch what’s being tossed to you, or toss it in the trash?
After using Tidy Cats LightWeight 24/7 Performance in my cat’s litter box, I’ve discovered that — like everything else — it has its pros and its cons.
Pros
Just like the advertisements show, Tidy Cats LightWeight is ridiculously light in comparison to other clay litters, which makes bringing in your groceries a little bit easier. However, I wouldn’t recommend tossing your litter container out the window to your neighbor as demonstrated in the commercials…no matter how light the litter is, that scenario just won’t pan out well.
Even though the litter is lighter, it still clumps cat waste and makes it easy to scoop. I was a little worried that such a light litter wouldn’t be able to perform as well as traditional clay litter, but I was pleasantly surprised with it’s clumping action and scoopability.
Cons
Although this litter is light on your muscles, it’s a bit heavy on the wallet. Traditional clay litters from Tidy Cats generally retail between $7 and $8 for a 20-pound jug, whereas Tidy Cats LightWeight litters tend to retail between $12 and $13 for an 8.5-pound jug. Of course, the two jugs deliver about the same amount of litter despite their differing weights, but it would be nice if their price tags reflected it.
It’s nice that this litter is light when it comes to carrying it from the store, but it’s lightness can prove to be a royal pain if your cat likes to throw litter out of her box like mine does. This litter tracks everywhere! My cat was able to kick it out of her box while burying her business, and then when she stepped out of the box, more litter followed! Most of the time, it felt as if more litter was outside of her box than was actually in it.
Conclusion
So, what’s the final scoop on this litter? I won’t be buying it again. It’s a great product, it works well, but I don’t want to pay more for a litter that ends up everywhere around my house except the litter box.
