Director Kathryn Bigelow is getting ready for her follow up to the Oscar nominated Zero Dark Thirty, and she’s bringing Tom Hardy along for the ride. Variety is reporting that Hardy is now attached to Bigelow’s upcoming film True American.
Much like Zero Dark Thirty, as well as Bigelow’s previous film, The Hurt Locker, True American will be based on actual events and have a plot that’s centered around terrorism.
The film will be based on the non-fiction book True American: Murder & Mercy in Texas by New York Times’ columnist Anand Giridharadas. The book tells the story of two men who cross paths: a Bangladesh Air Force officer named Raisuddin Bhuiyan and an “American terrorist” named Mark Stroman.
It’s not confirmed, but Hardy is likely to play the role of Stroman. In addition to Hardy starring and Bigelow directing, True American will be produced by Megan Ellison, who also produced Zero Dark Thirty, and experienced recent success producing American Hustle and Her, both Oscar Best Picture nominees.
There is no timetable set for its filming or release, but True American has all the makings of another great Oscar nominated film.
