Tony Bennett To Honor Amy Winehouse At 2011 MTV Video Music Awards

The L.A. Times reports that Tony Bennett, who worked with Amy Winehouse to record a duet of the classic “Body and Soul” for his “Duets II” album, will do a tribute to the late superstar at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Mr. Bennett appears in his first performance on the VMA stage since 1993 to honor the late singer.  Mr. Bennett is scheduled to do the introduction, including footage from the two singers’ duo recording session. “Body and Soul” is described as Winehouse’s final studio session, which took place back in March at Abbey Road Studios inLondon.

Columbia Records is reported to be planning to release the single and video on September 14, 2011.  The release date would have been Amy Winehouse’s 28th birthday.

The L.A. Times announced also that the “proceeds of the single will support the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which the singer’s family recently established to help a number of charities connected with children and young people.”

Mr. Bennett was described as very moved by the news of Amy’s death. “I was trying to tell her, ‘You have so much talent. Slow down on the drugs or it’s going to kill you,’ ” he said.  “And then when I heard she died, I couldn’t stop crying. She was such a talent, so sweet.”

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards is schedule to air live from the Nokia Theatre L.A on Sunday, August 28 at 9 p.m.  Performances by top stars such as Lady Gaga, Adele, Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Pitbull, Young the Giant and Jessie J. are included in the evening’s programming.

I'm a regular person who is passionate about writing... any kind of writing. I used to write short stories as a child. That brought me to a 35 year career as a business writer and instructional designer and developer as well as a developer of user guides, manuals, and instructional classroom aids for corporate trainees.

Upon retirement, I tackled the first item on my bucket list -- to write a novel. It took many months of thought, planning, outlining, and ultimately sitting at the keyboard for months but finally, I did write my novel. So now I'm a regular person and retiree who has reinvented herself as a published author of fiction!

I love researching everything and anything to satisfy many facets of my very curious personality, so it was only natural that I advance that love of research into reporting on the happenings of the day, weeks and months as to what's new on the shopping lists of merchandise buyers for fashion, and technology. Why not add to that, entertainment and the most layered and complex world of music.

I love it all! I hope you'll love some of it :()
