Top 10 Perform on The Voice: Recap of Best Performances

Tonight on NBC’s Season 4 of The Voice, The Top 10 performed a variety of songs ranging from the King of Pop Michael Jackson to Current R&B Soul sensation Miguel to Pop Rocker Pink.

The Top 10 contestants also had the help of guest mentors Sheryl Crow (on Team Blake), Pharrell Williams (on Team Usher), Hillary Scott (on Team Adam), and Cee Lo Green (on Team Shakira).

We chose three performances that we believed were the best of the night. Let’s dig a bit deeper into our top three favorites!

1) Team Shakira’s Sasha Allen performs Emeli Sande’s “Next to Me”

This was a brilliant song choice for Sasha. As she described in her video package, it’s a song with a lot of soul, but still has a light hearted aspect to it. Sasha gave a fantastic interpretation of a song that is currently receiving a ton of radio play. We couldn’t agree more with Shakira, who specifically states in the video package that this song gives Sasha the opportunity to prove that she can easily release an album in this genre.

Adam says Sasha did a fantastic job with the song. He expresses, “I am so happy you did a song like this. I am super proud of you.”

Blake acknowledges that it was definitely time for Sasha to cover an up tempo. He describes the performance as fun and praises Sasha for always giving a great vocal performance.

Usher says that this song gave Sasha the opportunity to add her own texture to the song. He further notes that he too was happy to see Sasha having fun this week.

Shakira professes that she is so proud that Sasha was able to show her versatility.

She says, “You completely rocked this song. It’s hard to take a current radio song and make it yours but you did an amazing job.”

2) Sarah Simmons performs Jessie J’s “Mama Knows Best”
Sarah definitely has one of the most powerfully distinct voices in the competition.

Ethereal airy vibe that reminds us of Florence Welch from Florence + The Machine combined with the vocal prowess of Joss Stone. We absolutely fell in love with her interpretation of Jessie J’s Mama Knows Best.” She had undeniable energy, great stage presence and a flawless vocal. The raspy tone in her voice blows our mind every time she sings.
Blake says “ You just radiated sexy tonight and I think you turned a corner too, musically.”

Adam pronounces, “You gave the performance of the night tonight.”

Usher explains that he believes Sarah has the “it” quality and that he really felt her energy tonight.

3) Team Adam’s Judith Hill performs Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”

Judith Hill, who worked with Michael on his last tour, admitted her apprehension in covering his song. It was a very emotional performance for Judith, but she rose to the occasion and did an unbelievable job.

It was effortless and absolute perfection. She succeeded in adding her own special spin to the song while still maintaining the attitude and swagger necessary in performing an iconic song like this.

All the judges expressed how impressed they were with Judith’s performance. Usher specifically related to Judith’s emotional connection to the song as he stated: “I, too have always been an incredible fan of the inspiration and creator and singer of the song, so it almost conjured the same emotions that I think you’re feeling right now. Just hearing the song, I miss him. I miss him so much.”
