Toyota Recalls 1.7 Million Vehicles

Toyota has issued a recall of 1.7 million vehicles, most of which are their Lexus line, due to problems with fuel leakage.

The recall includes 1.3 million in Japan which makes it the country’s second largest recall in history. Cars that are being affected by the recall are GS Lexus models in North America, Avensis sedan and station wagons in Europe and Noah subcompacts, RAV4 and Wish cars in Japan.

The cars are known to have defects from a faulty fuel pipe to a problem with a sensor that are leading to excess fuel leakage. The company first learned of the problem in August of 2008. They have had 77 overseas complaints and 142 in Japan. There have been no accidents or injuries caused by the problems.

The models affected in the U.S include:

Lexus GS 300 and 350 models sold in 2006 and 2007

Lexus IS205 from early 2009

Lexus 350 from early 2008

Toyota is repairing any damage caused on cars affected by the problems. If no damage has occurred, they are fixing the issue to prevent any future problems.
