Toys For Girls: Top Christmas Doll May Be Monster High

Monster High, a line of dolls that have only been available since 2010, appears to be posed to take the children’s toy market by storm this Christmas.

Earlier this year the Monster High doll collection moved into the number 2 spot in doll sales, according to Bryan Stockton, CEO of Mattel, the company that markets the dolls.

Late last month the Los Angeles Times named Monster High Dolls as their first pick for hot Christmas toys this year.

And the dolls aren’t just popular in the US. UK retailer Hamleys has also chosen Monster High Dolls to be on their top 10 Christmas toys for 2012 list.

The owner of the independent fan site MonsterHighDolls.net, Charles Cridland, agrees that Monster High Dolls will be one of the top toys this year.  “Back in Christmas 2010. you could tell that Monster High was going to be big. But it wasn’t in the mainstream yet. However, this year traffic is up fourfold and I’d be very surprised if they weren’t the number one doll brand this Christmas in the US.”

So just what are Monster High dolls?

The quirky and somewhat spooky looking doll characters are the kids of famous film and literature monsters. Some of the first characters released were Draculaura, Frankie Stein, Cleo de Nile, Deuce Gorgon, Clawdeen Wolf and Lagoona Blue. They were a massive success.

This led to more dolls and ranges being created As soon as these go on sale there is massive interest from children and collectors alike.

Books based on the Monster High brand have been released. The Monster High website features a steady release of new webisodes. There’s even rumors of a Monster High movie in the works. And boys aren’t left out – there is a line of Monster High dudes as well.
