True Detective Season 2: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn To Lead Cast

After months of speculations, HBO has announced that Collin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in True Detective Season 2.

“Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder,” is how the premium cable network describes the storyline of the new season.

Farrell will take the role of Ray Velcoro, a detective with loyalty issues between the police department and the mob. Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal trying to go legit, but upended by the murder of a business partner.

Actors Taylor Kitsch and Elisabeth Moss will play as the two police officers working with Collin Farrell. Kitsch will portray the 28-year old detective Paul Woodrugh and Moss as Ani Bezzerides, a Montery sheriff with a troubled past.

The role of the female lead is still up in the air. Some of the famous celebrities speculated to get the part include Rosario Dawson, Malin Akerman, Jessica Biel, Jaimie Alexander and Keira Knightley. Rachel McAdams was also mentioned, but rumors died down since she is scheduled to work on a new movie this year.

Even though the season premiere is slated summer 2015, there are rumors HBO is working to release it as early as January 2015.

Justin Lin is also confirmed to direct the first two episodes of this eight-episode crime drama series. Filming will commence this mid-October in California.
