TWD Season 6 Spoilers Update: Major Character Death Confirmed- Who Will It Be?

*Update- After seeing episode 12 of TWD I have revised and added some information to make it current.

Any hope that we would get through season 6 of The Walking Dead without losing one of our favorite characters is all but gone now as 2 sources have confirmed there will be a major death this season.

The question now is- who will it be?

*Warning- major spoilers ahead*

Just as fans suspected, the appearance of Negan will also mean the appearance of Lucille- and possibly the most horrific scene in the shows history as of one of the comic’s most brutal events is brought to life.

Speaking to Empire Magazine,  executive producer Greg Nicotero more or less confirmed this, saying the 2nd half of season 6 will be: “”relentless” and “heartbreaking” then added: “If you read the comic book, you know we’re climbing towards a major death.”

And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, here is what Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan, had to say to TV Guide about his villainous character: “as far as I know, it’s going to be very much parallel to the comic books,” adding: “If you know what’s coming, then I don’t have to tell you.”

He ended the interview with this telling statement: “I’m no p***y! I don’t mind handling a baseball bat!”adding: “I feel real comfortable with Lucille in my hands, let’s say that.”

So I think it is pretty safe to say the scene fans everywhere dread is coming- but we still don’t know who it will be.

Now, anything is possible- it could be anyone, but based on who Negan is and the statement this act makes, I say it is 99% certain it will be one of Rick’s people- and I’m 65% convinced it will be Glenn, just like the comics.

Nicotero’s use of the word heartbreaking makes me lean this way, because while anyone of the core members would be devastating, Glenn’s death would be the most heartbreaking.

Glenn, like Hershel, Beth and Tyree, is the one out of the group that still has optimism and hope- look at how he helped Nicholas.

Plus, the fact that he was the one that saw the Polaroid pictures of Negan’s victims is to me, a hint of what’s to come.

Plus, Maggie being pregnant adds another layer of utter devastation to it playing out this way.

Negan’s act has the most impact on the group and viewers if Glenn is the victim, as killing him takes away another piece of humanity.

Now, showrunner Scott M. Gimple loves to mix things up so Glenn is not a sure thing, which leaves us with Rick, Carol, Daryl, Carl, Maggie, Judith, Morgan, Abraham, Sasha, Eugene Rosita and Tara (of the main group).

I’m not including Fr. Gabriel here because he just is becoming a part of the group and finding his voice, he is not important enough in terms of viewer investment to be the victim here.

Right off, I will eliminate Maggie and Judith: I think either one of them being Negan’s victim is just way too graphic/brutal and would alienate a lot of fans.

I know I would definitely be appalled, especially in the case of Judith.

Besides, in the comics Negan has a thing about not killing women and children and I think they will stick with that.

Likewise, I will also say no to Rick and Daryl.  While I do believe Gimple has no compunction to kill either, I don’t think it is their time yet; I also don’t think they fit into the underlying meaning of this scene.

You can also take Carl off the list of potential victims: he is a big part of the Negan story line in the comics, so I don’t see him falling victim here either.

Carol, even though she would fall under Negan’s no-kill rule, is actually the best option next to Glenn, as she has outlived her comic book character and there have been some rumors to that effect.

The fact that she is now being shown as the “mother figure” of Alexandria and is feeling conflict and remorse over the lives she has taken could be a bit of foreshadowing.

Not to mention the way she is protecting Maggie- she could and would take Maggie’s place if it cam down to it.

Plus, seeing Carol, who went from an abused wife to a warrior for the group, die in such a vicious manner would be ironic/poignant and definitely heartbreaking.

However, I think there is still a lot to explore with her- and now Morgan thanks to her epiphany of sorts, so I feel like it’s a 40% chance they would do it.

Morgan, Abraham, Sasha, Tara and Rosita have become valuable members of the group- but they are not originals and I think for this sequence of events it will be an original

The one person from that group that might work is Eugene-  he has become a sentimental favorite for many and is so helpless it would be really hard to watch him die that way, but I just don’t feel it.

Overall, my vote is for Glenn: as a comic book reader and a fan of the show it makes the most sense, but it could play out in so many ways it is really anyone’s guess.

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 P.M. EST on AMC.
