Cyber Monday Starts Tonight!

Cyber Monday deals will be offered a day early by many retailers, in the hopes of luring customers to their site for their holiday purchases. Walmart is planning to be among them.

Cyber Monday was coined five years ago as the internet’s biggest shopping day of the year. It is the Monday following Thanksgiving and is typically a day when people returning to work decide to surf and shop online for what they did not score during their Black Friday deals. Originally there were no specials for the day, it was merely a day when internet shopping skyrocketed and retailers noticed that they received a larger amount of online business.

Over the years retailers have made the day special all on its own. As a day completely separate from Black Friday, these merchants have offered special deals on the Monday when most people shop online. From low cost electronics and toys to free shipping, online merchants have found that they can attract an entirely new round of business and increase sales even more than they did over the weekend following Thanksgiving.

Many of the Cyber Monday deals are not found any other time of year and will be in the season’s most shopped categories such as electronics and toys.  Many of these same companies have also offered specials online over Thanksgiving and Black Friday. That doesn’t mean they will not be geared up to offer a new set of specials on Monday.

Some merchants, however, want to extend the specials and draw even more people to their site. For this reason many of them have opted to add an extra day, or more, to their Cyber Monday deals.  For these retailers Cyber Monday actually begins at midnight on Sunday giving them an extra day of sales to attract customers.

Staples, Best Buy and Walmart are among the companies that have extended their Cyber Monday deals. All three will offer specials beginning midnight Sunday. Walmart is going the extra mile and offering a weeklong Cyber Deals Week that will last until Friday December 3.

Along with specials in the most shopped categories, many online retailers are offering free shipping with a minimum purchase to their customers.

Many of these businesses have kept their Cyber Monday deals quiet so that customers will have to visit the website to find out exactly what deals are offered.
