Walmart Is Now Open For Davie Residents

On Wednesday, residents of Davie, FL, received a new Walmart Store near the Rolling Hills community.

Jerry Licari, Lake Estates at Rolling Hills Homeowner Association says he’s ‘not thrilled’ about having a Walmart next-door,  but added ‘But at the end of the day, they’ve done a great job meeting our conditions.’

The residents of the area had a conflict with Walmart in 2006, but a settlement was reached later on.

The new store will not be a 24 hour one. It will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11 p.m.

The size of the store is 154,400 square feet.

The neighborhood and the store building include a retention pond in between them.

Don Martin, who lives close and is a board member on the homeowners association of the Rolling Hills, said there’s an additional buffering and landscaping which was not part of the original plan, a delight for the residents.

He added the new store is ‘more compatible with our neighborhood, our wishes and desires’ than what had been originally planned.

The store has a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday.

Senior director of community affairs at Walmart, Steven Restivo, said in a statement ‘Our Davie store is a source of 300 new jobs and we look forward to being a good corporate citizen here in Davie for years and years to come’.

The retailer is also opening mini-stores on college campuses.
