Walmart States Significant Savings for Holiday Dinner Items

Walmart is stating they are offering major savings on holiday meals when compared to the national average.

When it comes to a deal for Thanksgiving dinners Walmart’s website posted “Walmart customers shopping for a traditional Thanksgiving meal can plan a 10-person dinner for 32.64, 34 percent less than the national average of 49.41 reported by the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) today” (Walmart.com, Nov. 20, 2014).

The Comparison comes from looking at the current sales prices through Walmart and the prices that were researched through the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF).  The AFBF website stated that  “A total of 179 volunteer shoppers checked prices at grocery stores in 35 states” (AFBF, 2014).

The AFBF asks the volunteer shoppers to look for the best prices a store has that does not include any special promotions.  This data is then used to create the average price of a holiday dinner.

The price for turkeys, the main part of the Thanksgiving holiday dinner, has actually decreased less than one cent per pound according to the AFBF.  This means that a 16 pound turkey is 11 cents cheaper than last year’s turkey prices.

Other items for holiday dinners including sweet potatoes, whipping cream, milk and other miscellaneous items have risen slightly by between 0.02 cents to 0.28 cents in price from last year to this year making up for the small difference in the price of the turkey.

In order to stay competitive with other stores and still offer consumers low prices on their grocery items, Walmart is committed to viable pricing for a variety of items.  If consumers are interested in what is on sale at their local Walmart, and want to take advantage of the sales leading up to the holiday, they can either pick up an ad at the store, or they can go to walmart.com.

If going to walmart.com then up at the top of the page they can click on the weekly add tab and find the sales for the current week.  The weekly ads will give a price on the items they are highlighting for sale.

However; looking into other sales at various local stores may also be an option.  Shoppers looking for the best deals should naturally check with their local stores to see who has the best deals.
