Where Is Santa Claus? (link)

Where is Santa Claus?  The question has been on my 7 year old daughter’s mind all Christmas Eve.

Luckily, through the magic of modern technology, I have an answer for her. Santa is being tracked on radar by the NORAD Santa Tracker. She’s watching it closely as I write – and getting a geography lesson at the same time!

As we watch, he is in Lajes do Pico, Azores. His Atlantic crossing is expected to continue soon. His next stop is expected to be Cape Verde.

NORAD, which is usually tasked with protecting North American skies and waters, is working together with Google Maps to provide up to the minute satellite imaging of Santa’s journey. Things have come a long way since the blip on radar I glimpsed for a few seconds on the news during my childhood.

Now Santa Clause is tracked with a great degree of accuracy. According to the NORAD Santa Tracker and Google Earth, he has delivered 1,335,951,348 toys so far tonight. You can see him in action at www.noradsanta.org/en/track3d.html

Cookies and milk are being set out in homes across the US as Santa makes his way here. Soon children will be settling down for a restless night’s sleep, anticipating tomorrow’s joys.
