X Factor 2013 Four Chair Challenge Begins: Recap of Performances

X Factor 2013 Four Chair Challenge Begins: Recap of Performances

Tonight, Fox’s Season 3 of The X Factor 2013 introduced a new round called “The Four Chair Challenge.”

In “The Four Chair Challenge,” acts will perform one by one in each category. The acts will have to give the performance of their lives, as their mentor must decide to give them a seat or send them straight home.

However, getting a seat doesn’t mean they will keep it, their mentors can switch out the seats, so no one is safe until all ten acts perform!

There are 4 seats for each category and tonight The Over 25’s and four out of the ten girls performed!

Let’s recap the performances!

The night started of with Kelly Rowland’s category of Over 25’s

Victoria Carriger performs Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love”

Although a little pitchy in parts, Victoria did a good job of conveying the raw emotion attached to the lyrics of the song.

Demi says, “You are so great, I love the rasp. The energy was a little low, but I love the passion behind your voice.”

Paulina says, “That raspy voice of yours is what captivated me from the beginning. You did a good job. Congratulations.”

Simon stated: “If it was me, on that performance I wouldn’t put you through.”

Kelly remarks, “You silenced this room for a second, it got boring, but you picked it back up again.”

Kelly decides that Victoria can take the first seat, but will she still be there at the end of the show?

Kristine Mirelle performs Britney Spears’ “Oops I Did It Again.”

Mirelle performed a slower ballad type version of Britney Spears’ “Oops I Did It Again.” The arrangement though seemed a bit of a mess to us. She was also a bit pitchy in parts, but she did have some shining moments as well.

Demi says, “I love when you walk on stage, I can feel your presence, but personally I don’t know if you can compete with everyone else in the competition.”

Paulina remarks, “I think you have great talent, but I don’t know if you are ready for this.”

Simon states: “The arrangement was confusing. It was pitchy, but our job is to see potential and work with it so I’d be keeping you in at this point.”

Kelly chooses to keep Kristine for now.

Jeff Gutt performs “Amazing Grace”

Gutt gave a perfect vocal of “Amazing Grace.” The power behind his voice is insanely good. This dude just bleeds passion when he sings and we just gotta love him for it.

Paulina says, “I feel the power is beyond your voice, the power you have is about your will and that’s why you captivate me.”

Demi expresses, “I think you have come so far since last season, I just think you are so talented.”

Simon states: “This is by far the best performance of the night so far.”

Kelly says, “You are so talented, you bring up all the stakes in the competition.”

Kelly has Jeff Gutt take a seat for now.

Rachel Potter Sings Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable”

Potter took a risk and chose to give a country twist to Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable.” Unfortunately, though, the risk didn’t seem to pan out so well.

She started off just fine, but fell flat when she tried to hit her high notes. It just became a bit of a disaster from then on. We were so bummed because she is better than this performance!

Demi says, “I think you can do a lot better than that, that was kinda rough.”

Simon commends Potter for making a brave choice to sing a country version of the song.

Kelly mentions, “Your highs weren’t as clean as they usually are.”

Nonetheless, Potter gets the final seat, but will she keep it?!

Lorie Moore performs Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love to You”

Although a bit of a rocky of start, there is no denying Lorie has an amazing voice. Again though, we are not sure we loved this song choice for her.

What’s so frustrating is that we know she is better than this performance!

Demi says, “I really felt the passion behind that performance, but I don’t know if I’m looking at a superstar.”

Paulina agrees saying, “I don’t know where you will fit in the music industry.”

Simon declares, “My issue is I didn’t like the version of the song, but you can really sing.”

Kelly says, “I love your voice, but I don’t know if you are ready for this competition.”

First switch gets made after her performance: Kelly gives Lori a seat so she ends up sending home Kristine Morelle.

Allison Davis performs Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok”

Oh Gosh, where do we begin with this?! This was such an awful song choice! The performance just felt so forced. We just weren’t feeling this one! All we can say is Nice Effort?!

Demi says, “I think you have the look, but I feel like I can’t take the performance seriously.”

Simon calls Davis a “wanna be, while calling the performance “so lazy, predictable and annoying.”

Kelly says, “As a performer we have to know who you are and it has to be authentic.”

Allison Davis ends up being the first contestant to be sent home!

Jeff Brinkman performs David Guetta and Usher’s “Without You”

Once again, not sure what’s going on tonight, but the contestants are not picking the right songs!

Although there is no denying Brinkman has an amazing voice, this was not a fitting song choice! Not to mention, he seemed so disconnected to the song.

Demi says, “I don’t think you chose the right song, I got a little bored.”

Simon states: “That was a monstrous version of that song, that was ridiculous for you, but I’m torn because you have a great voice.”

Kelly agrees that it was not the right song choice, but still says regardless “You have an incredible voice.”

Another Switch transpires: Victoria is out, Jeff Brinkman is in!

Denny Smith AKA Santa Claus performs “In The Midnight Hour”

Santa can definitely singgg! There’s no denying he’s got a classic voice.

Paulina says, “I once again believe in Santa Claus, I love you.”

Simon remarks, “Santa just dropped the house.”

However, Kelly ends up sending Santa home as to which Simon replies, “what are you crazy?!”

James Kenney Sings Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me”

Kenney gave a stellar performance of Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me.” He displayed his colorful vocal range infusing the song with intricate runs. We honestly got the chills on this performance. I mean this dude sings with such effortlessness as he hit all the notes with such ease and beauty.

Demi says,”You killed it.”

Paulina says, “That was so solid, we were into you and I loved it.”

Simon states: “I’ve heard this song a million times, but I never heard it sung like this. You earned my total respect after that performance.”

Kelly says, “You took one huge leap of faith and you made us believe you have something truly special.”

Kelly decides to make a switch after his performance: James Kenney is In, Jeff Brinkman is ultimately out of the competition.

Lillie McCloud Sings “A House Is Not A Home”

OK WOW! Holy Mother Of God! We were jumping out of our chairs for this performance. Everything about this performance was jaw dropping. We don’t understand how she doesn’t have a record deal by now. How is she not headlining her own shows? That was a Grammy award winning performance!

Demi says, “You look like a superstar. I’m honored to be on a panel in front of you.”

Paulina professes, “Thank you so much for giving us that performance. You left me speechless. You are a Goddess!”

Simon says, “I just love you, you have the X Factor.”

Kelly expresses, “You have to know with every fiber in your being how special you are.”

Kelly makes another switch Lillie McCloud is in, Lorie Moore is out.

Thus, the Final Four for Over 25’s is: James Kenney, Jeff Gutt, Rachel Potter, and Lillie McCloud.

Now, Let’s recap Demi’s category of The Girls!

Bree Randall Sings The Wanted’s “Glad You Came”

We are not sure we loved the song choice, but she did put an interesting twist to the song.

Kelly says, “There was no growth between your audition to now. I felt like the performance kind of dragged.”

Simon states:”You brought the right outfit and personality, but not the right voice, it was a bit forgettable.”

Demi reveals,”I love your ambition, but compared to everyone else I don’t think you are ready.”

However, for now, Demi gives Bree the first chair.

Khaya Cohen Sings Bruno Mars’s “Locked Out Of Heaven”

This 15-year-old got pipes! We absolutely adored her brilliant interpretation of the song!!

We love the blusey/jazzy feel to her voice. She honestly sounds like a young Adele to us! She hit every note so epically and displayed her powerful vibrato.

Kelly says, “You have incredible instincts. It’s so natural your presence, you better put her through Demi!”

Simon stated: “You got even better than the last time I saw you. I think you’ve got massive potential.”

Demi remarks, “I see you having fun with so much drive and passion. I’m blown away, I think the entire competition needs to watch out for you.”

Khaya takes the next seat and rightfully so if we might add!

Jaime Pineda Sings No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak”

Although a bit lackluster in parts, there’s no denying this girl has a great voice and we have to admit it was pretty cool when she sang parts of the song in Spanish.

Kelly says, “I love your voice. Although you do at times look uncomfortable on stage, I loved when you started flipping it into Spanish.”

Simon stated: “When you sing in English, there was nothing particularly special, but when you switch it up, then I see a market for you.”

Demi also reiterates how impressed she is when Jaime crosses over to Spanish.

Demi decides to give her a seat in one of the chairs for now!

Ashly Williams performs Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing”

There is no denying Ashly is a powerful vocalist. We were a bit shocked about her song choice, but we actually ended up liking her rendition of the song. Was it as amazing as her first audition? No, but still, we were impressed with her delivery and control.

Kelly says,”You are so talented. You are just remarkable, there is so much power behind your voice.”

Paulina states: “I’m just speechless. You have so much courage. Music is for you.”

Simon says, “I loved your first audition and you wouldn’t be human if you weren’t touched by your story, but I didn’t like the song. There were some tuning issues. I don’t think that was a great performance.”

Demi put her through her final four for now!

So, All 10 girls have not performed tonight, so we have to wait till tomorrow night to see who ultimately makes Demi’s final four!

Are you happy with who got through so far? We want to know! Leave your thoughts below!
