The premiere of Fox’s X Factor kicked off tonight with the debut of new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio, who were joined by former judges Demi Lovato and of course the lovely Simon Cowell.
This year, once the auditions are complete, the contestants will be split into four categories including: Over 25’s, Groups, Boys, and Girls.
So, the question is who impressed in the first round of Auditions?
Let’s dig deeper into the top 3 performances of the night
1) Lillie McCloud performs “Alabaster Box”
54-year-old Lillie McCloud absolutely blew us away with her performance of “Alabaster Box.”
Her voice was that of a legend. With her powerhouse vocals she sang with such a profound emotional delivery as she effortlessly showcased her incredibly colorful vocal range.
Paulina Rubio described her performance as unbelievable.
A tearful Demi Lovato stated: “You ripped my heart out of my chest. I felt like I’m listening to Whitney.”
Simon said, “You have an incredible voice. You absolutely nailed it.”
Kelly Rowland remarked, “You could feel that you touched everyone in this room with your voice. Bless you.”
2)Alex and Sierra perform of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”
Despite noticeable nerves, the duo delivered a lovely rendition of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.”
The duo harmonized so beautifully together and did a great job of changing up the song and making it their own by adding a folk/indie vibe to the song.
I don’t know about you guys, but it reminded us of when The Voice’s Melanie Martinez performed a similar version of the song!
So, what did the judges think?
Demi pronounced, “I got the chills. Not only are you talented, but you are both so down to earth. There is magic when you perform and you are so cute together.”
Kelly said, “It is really beautiful what you two have and what you ignite on the stage.”
Paulina emphasized how much she loved their vocals while declaring herself a believer in the duo.
Simon professed, “I thought it would be corny, but you are both cool and quirky. It was an incredible version of the song.”
3) Rion Paige performs Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away”
13-year-old Rion Paige stunned us with her performance. She truly sounded like a young Carrie Underwood.
Receiving a standing ovation by all the judges, it was Simon who gave her the biggest compliment of the night as he stated: “I think you are literally extraordinary. I really do. I remember predicting Carrie Underwood would go on and do special things with her life and I’m gonna say the same thing about you. In every single way you are a beautiful person.”
